The Survivalist is the Attitudinal Psyche type who most believes they are prepared to survive in any tough situation. They easily adapt to the demands of others while considering the responsibilities of all parties involved. This type is generally laid back emotionally and does not take themselves too seriously. However, they have no issue negotiating, especially if they have their desires set on a resource in their environment. FVLEs know exactly what they want from their physical surroundings, even when they are not naturally detail oriented. They trust in their ability to use, organize, and incorporate all the things that create the foundation of their world. At times, the FVLE can fall into laziness as they fully engulf themselves in the possessions they have accumulated. This can cause the type to appear slow to act on their obligations and responsibilities, preferring to embrace hedonism in its place. On the flip side, FVLEs genuinely want to be open to any alternate life path that may come into their consciousness – so they tend to resist picking one certain path that defines them.
FVLEs trust in their ability to make money when necessary. This type looks at results they can achieve by exploring new aesthetic and sensual experiences. All their energy is gathered and applied towards reaching these sensually satisfying goals. Since they are known as the Survivalist, any strategy that helps them flourish is highly considered. One might call the FVLE selfish and when it comes to their hedonistic nature and it is partially true. However, they are intently focused on the desires and wishes of others and will endlessly provide a listening ear no matter how complex another’s issues may be. They may be so assured in their ability to survive, that they ignore any sort of sneering doubt or questioning of the limitations that may stop them. This can cause intense skepticism towards anyone that asserts their own personal theories and conclusions towards their lives. The FVLE wants to know that they can feel secure in their ideas to aid their need to prosper. Although this type does not have highly varied and explosive emotions, they do wish to keep satisfied and will vehemently disagree with those who get in the way. FVLEs prefer to feel a security in being able to question the ideas and conclusions of others. FVLEs do not take offense to disagreements easily despite their questioning nature, as their emotions are generally quick to come and go without a second thought.
1F – Confident Physics
FVLEs have strong opinions about what to do with resources. They are willing to work hard for financial gain and usually become skilled at adapting to new environments. They may take on work that suits their lifestyle but are constantly digging to find out what else they can create. This type uses their openness to new responsibilities to gather more comforts and desires afforded by any extra income or perks that come with it. They have no problem mingling to fulfill their destiny and inner desires. It is common for FVLEs to change their appearance without consulting anyone. They choose an aesthetic they like and get rid of anything that serves no purpose to their new goal. This type tends to doubt any rules or limitations set on their physical desires. They may reject advice on what is impossible for them to discover in their environment as they believe there are always undiscovered methods of creating a more interesting life. The Survivalist is accustomed to easily motivating themselves to get what they want from the environment, but on occasion they run into doubt about how long they can sustain the motivation. They usually must keep moving and exploring or else the fall into the anxiety and insecurity of being forced to imagine the ways in which they are inconsistent, unhelpful, and inefficient. However, FVLEs will often stumble upon un-addressed emotions once they explore these insecurities. This can solve the emotional gaps that they are naturally not worried about.
2V – Flexible Volition
FVLEs enjoy discussing the options of any decision with all parties involved. They easily inquire anyone’s ideas of what they would like to see happen so long as they are not too aggressive. This type tolerates laziness in themselves and others even when it delays a goal. They believe that everyone has great potential, they just need space to realize it. FVLEs see personal improvement as more important than accomplishment, which often gives them their open nature. They wish for themselves and others to enjoy the journey of life, even if it means venturing into the taboo. This type appears scattered in their ambitions despite easily motivating themselves for whatever varied interests they currently have. They are often drawn to hobbies that enhance their practical skills. FVLEs may feel indecisive when they struggle to understand a problem. To make up for this insecurity involving their own rationale, they spend time enhancing their willpower and ability to pull themselves out of trouble through brute strength. A theoretical puzzle is often treated as any other obstacle to overcome, there are multiple ways to succeed. FVLEs are not often emotional but they do accumulate wisdom about their emotions through their negotiations and listening ear with others. Every new interaction is seen as a chance to learn about the nature of reality. This type explores various ambitions and discovers what moves their emotions, quickly taking note and applying the lesson.
3L – Insecure Logic
FVLEs are fascinated with the structure of reality. At the same time, not knowing how to explain the world gives them intense anxiety. They may internally question why someone holds certain opinions but will only voice these when comfortable. This type worries that not spending enough time on gaining knowledge will impede getting what they want from the environment. They often have to examine theories and ideas numerous times before feeling confident enough to accept them. FVLEs often feel doubtful about their own conclusions but are even more skeptical of others. They can spend hours searching for errors in logic, especially when it affects their own health, environment, or goals. FVLEs may wait long periods of time to come up with an opinion about an idea put forth. When they are ready to dissect someone’s argument, they do so calmly but without regard for emotions. On the rare occasion the FVLE strives to change their emotional state, they readily explore the logical reasons for doing so. FVLEs do not spend much time in their emotional world, but they have a constant curiosity about the meaning of life. So long as there is something to discover, they will remain fascinated by it.
4E – Unconcerned Emotion
FVLEs have simple emotional demands. They are usually not interested in expressing their emotions if they are busy applying themselves in the world of personal desires. When they do have an important emotion, they quickly decide what the correct way to convey it is and move on. Often, they look to others to figure out the appropriateness or what it is they are truly feeling. This type pays attention to bold emotional displays in their surroundings. The positive and negative feelings of others are of great interest to FVLEs, as this informs them of what they may find emotionally important to themselves. They appreciate other people who can identify when they look sad, happy, or angry, so they can decide what to do with the emotion. Otherwise, FVLEs are apathetic to their emotional world and will try to improve it through upgrading their relationship to their resources. This type moves on quickly after an emotional epiphany. Each lesson brings a new period of wonder that the FVLE must prepare for. The FVLE is not bothered by those who willfully inspire them to form personal values, if it improves their own enjoyment of what life has to offer.
Phases of Insecurity
FVLEs often exhibit insecure attitudes through their logic. This is causally related to the Insecure Logic (3L) attitude. In Attitudinal Psyche, we are not stuck in a monolithic phase of constant insecurity. There must always be room to shift as the ebbs and flows of life are forever cycling. We see this reflected within our attitudes through the phases. The FVLE most frequently seems to be in a dormant phase of logic, but this does not mean they never shift into the reactive phase. Since many FVLEs seem to be helpful, able to gather the energy of a room, and rather adventurous, it is hard to see how logic may be plaguing their mind and causing them to feel doubtful, unsure, and negative towards this aspect of life. Once someone becomes closer to the FVLE, it is more apparent that this type feels largely negative about anything that pulls them towards engulfing their mind with logic.
In this phase, FVLEs may appear to become totally uninterested in discussing how things work. They may ignore anything scientifically relevant, refuse to learn new ideas, or completely shut off trying to further their academic pursuits. You may see them give the least effort possible in any educational program they are involved in, or at more unhealthy levels, try to get others to do the logical tasks for them. They can start new projects and ideas without ever giving the second thought of how these things operate. There is a tendency for them to waste money paying for products that help them skip the steps of logic entirely, regardless of how easy or potentially simple it was to understand the task. They can stress themselves out by bulldozing through a project instead of stepping back and being patient to understand each piece to the puzzle to finish the task with precision.
In this phase, FVLEs become fiercely skeptical of how the world operates. They may downplay theories, common rules of logic, the proposed knowledge of others, and any insinuated fact from an outside source. They can spend hours imagining how things work until their mind spins out of control. The FVLE may become overly sensitive to structures of information and they will wrap up their own energy and time into discovering how they work for themselves. They will not trust anyone else who takes on explaining abstract concepts and will desire to look competent within logic through skepticism. The skepticism is a way in which the FVLE can show aggression to anyone who is questioning them, and it settles the insecurity momentarily. If an outside source realizes their insecurity, then they risk being constantly pulled into subjects revolving around the aspect of logic.
This phase is less of a phase and more of momentary glimpses of how the FVLE has become secure in certain areas of the aspect of logic. The FVLE will often pick up skills they have learned along the way through their reactive and dormant phases and become secure with those particular sub-aspects of life. For instance, they may study a specialized theory extensively to the point of where they are confident in all the information within. Once the FVLE has experienced and normalized all angles of the aspect, they can better feel prepared to explain anything regarding the aspect while resisting pressure from others – or at least not caving into the urge to feel pressure when the aspect is brought up. The FVLE can better make decisions about the direction of their life, feel energized with purpose, and manage their relations without feeling completely drained the more they can come to a secure understanding of logic.
The FVLE has many ways in which they can grow. The first is to learn to be more flexible regarding their personal tastes and preferences. The more they can learn to be less aggressive and picky about what they desire in the moment, the easier they will find it to communicate with others in a way that is effective and conducive for growth. They may also need to force themselves to choose a life path rather than wasting time switching up their goals and purpose on a whim. Writing out their goals and deciding which ones fulfill them emotionally is a great start to understanding how they can become more pointed in their direction.
The FVLE has an opportunity to grow by learning how to be less picky with their personal tastes and need for selfish sensation seeking. They can become so hyper-focused on their possessions, hobbies and adventurous spirit that they lose touch with how their gift can also be shared with the world. A psychologically healthy FVLE will tend to meet others in the middle when it comes to their preferences and offer concessions and compromises. The reason this type holds onto their physical desires so tightly, is that they have an unconscious awareness of their biggest vulnerability – their physical energy and abilities. The FVLE knows that without their physical confidence and ability to change their environment whenever they desire, they are nothing. This is why they continuously treat themselves to whatever they would like in any moment of their choosing. However, the best way to minimize their vulnerability is to explore it deeply and run towards what normally frightens them. As the FVLE slowly incorporates the opinions and wishes of others within physics as well as learning to process out the information rather than hoarding it for themselves, the more they will receive the full benefits of living in the moment and recognizing their strengths without arrogance.
The FVLE has a fearless resonance with their own volition that they proudly show the world. They can quit any project and pick up a new desire in the matter of seconds without blinking an eye. Even when this process harms the FVLE greatly, they will adopt the perception of viewing their own 2V as unstoppable. It does not matter if the world is crumbling around them, they trust themselves to fully provide options and willpower to themselves and others. The downside to this overly “can-do” attitude is that when things are truly running amok, the FVLE will act as if nothing is wrong, therefore missing large swaths of destruction that have affected them negatively. The growth of this type is to slow down, choose a goal that they can specialize in, stick with it, and do not endlessly give away their energy to options that do not support the project at hand. If the FVLE can manage to create realistic, tangible options to express their willpower and invite others to do the same, they will greatly improve their efficiency in living a purposeful life.
The FVLE, like all other types, has the most opportunity to grow as a person by engaging in their insecure aspect. Rather than running away or fiercely defending their own perceived vulnerabilities within logic, they must slowly expose themselves to it in small doses. By using this exposure technique, the FVLE will start to recognize that they are guilty of constantly over-estimating the negative effect that the details, ideas, and advanced logical data will have on them. Once this type sees that they are overly sensitive to the realm of logic, they will naturally begin to explore it in a way that makes them feel mostly safe, yet challenges them enough to make a difference. The FVLE must push themselves to engage daily in logical exercises. They need to refrain from skipping days and falling back into either ignoring or pre-reacting to what makes them uncomfortable. As the FVLE progresses long term in this exposure technique they will begin to notice that they are coming to more conclusions about ideas. There will be a natural understanding of logical concepts and how things operate on a deeper, more complex level. These advancements in their thinking can only further propel the FVLE to come to a place of comfortability in knowing they absolutely can come to the right answers if they are willing to put in the work to remain consistent in doing so.
The FVLE has a natural unbothered attitude surrounding emotions, so improving it seems quite useless to this type (and all types). However, the surprising truth of the fourth attitude is that there is heaps of untapped potential waiting to be explored underneath. As all types naturally develop the first, second and third aspects without hesitation (since two are natural, and one is variable and bothersome), there is an inherent ignorance about recognizing the power that is contained in exploring that final aspect. If the FVLE can become at ease with their first three aspects, they can unlock the fearlessness that exists in the fourth. Now, this courageousness is not as evident as within the second attitude, but it is pointed and stinging which is something that the flexible aspect lacks. If the FVLE can unravel their emotions, start to understand what jolts their sensitivities in relations, romance, and love – they will find gifts that they would never imagine are there. The one trap that they must look out for is to not let themselves become slaves to this new found flippant ability. The minute that one of the other aspects fails, is attacked, feels threatened, or loses steam – it is natural for the fourth aspect to entirely disappear from someone’s psyche. For this reason, it is integral to take advantage of the fourth aspect whenever you feel calm enough to engage in it. It is an untapped resource and when it comes around, you must gather the fruits that are within.
